There are a number of festivals and fairs in Rome to attend. They cover everything from music to theater to fashion. Depending on the time of year you visit, there are different fairs and festivals to attend.
In the beginning of the year, the fairs begin with the Epiphany in January. A fair is held in the Piazza Navona. The festival is from January 1st through the 7th, with all sorts of activities going on during the week.
Carnevale happens the week before Lent. Carnevale is the Italian version of Mardi Gras. Parties go on for the entire week, with parades, masquerade balls, shows and concerts all going on at once.

During March, travelers can stop by the Trionfale neighborhood to celebrate Festa di San Giuseppe, or the Feast of Saint Joseph. Special pastries are served throughout the day, and a market is set up near the Church of San Giuseppe. The day is also celebrated as the Italian Father’s Day.
For those traveling during the spring, there is the Festa della Primavera, or Spring Festival. During this festival the heritage of Rome, the four quarters into which the city was divided before forming Rome, is celebrated. During the weeklong celebration there are different games, all based in the period of 1492 to 1527. Some of the games include medieval archery, shooting the rope, and running with barrels.
La Notte Bianca is when the city of Rome stays up all night. Public transportation runs throughout the night, and many of the stores and shops stay open. Museums and shows stay open as well, and concerts go on all night until the early morning. During the night all of the museums, concerts, and other areas of interest are free to all who visit. This is one of the most celebrated festivals, and is now celebrated in other countries on the same night as well.
Mostra dell Antiquariato is another festival which occurs in late May. During this time, antique fairs are held near Piazza Navona. At Via Margutta in late May, a four day art fair is held. But the largest event of the summer is Estate Romana, which lasts from June to September. Concerts, theater, shows, and other cultural events take place all over Rome. Two of the biggest events during this time are the Villa Celimontana Jazz concerts and the Massenzino Film Festival, both of which occur on the Caelian Hill.
